Toward a Declaration of Imperatives for Perpetual Civilization

The following document is a suggested template intended to ignite contemplation, the moment of possibility and a window for much-needed scientific spiritual renaissance on Earth. Let us choose to engage actively in light, in love and in hope together. If you have suggestions for improvement, please note them in the forum.

We, the sovereign individuals of Earth without distinction, hereby declare our independence from government with representatives and powers available for purchase, where the unalienable rights and freedoms to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness are subject to manipulation and corruption by hidden conspiracies and abusers seeking to enrich and empower the few at the expense of the many. Rather, we assert our allegiance to libertine individual sovereignty, with all of its rights and responsibilities, under Natural Law, for the sake of continued civilization, collective freedom, scientific progress, the preservation of individual consciousness necessary for creativity and for the free experience of joy. Stung by the onset of oppression, we now assert our will, together and undeterred, to liberate the Earth from all systems of tyranny, war, oppression, destruction and wanton negativity and to work together for ourselves, for each other, for our posterity and for love, light and the upliftment of consciousness each day, in every word and action mindful, considering the very real choice we now face between annihilation and Golden Age.

We, the sovereign individuals of Earth without distinction, choose life, light and imagination for ourselves, for each other and for our posterity under the stars that we might have legacy and that we might realize our potential to sustain and create beauty.

We ascertain that Natural Law, being the code of our Natural and Perpetual World Order, is written not upon paper, nor contrived by lawyers nor bankers nor elite masters, neither subject to revision nor amendment but only discovery, and not conceived by human consciousness. Rather, Natural Law is Universal Law described in abundance by the Universe itself, revealed by the light of the stars and partially determinable by our science. Its principles of elegant simplicity, parsimony and efficiency are obvious and manifold.

Natural Law's principles of sovereign primacy and parsimony abolish arbitrary and overly complicated structures of control, taxation and oppression and realign individual minds and collective behaviors with best geometric fit through time and space to the natural world. Opportunities and incidences of abuse of large centralized powers, administrations and organizations increase with their size, power and prevalence. Therefore, it is a mandate of the Natural World Order to turn away, as sovereign individuals without distinction, from the pretenses and contrivances of centralized powers, which are always exploited and corrupt, and from centralized authorities such as government and military leaders, so-called representatives and celebrities, which are usually corrupt, false and far better at self-promotion than sustainable civilization, in order to reshape culture toward geometric alignment with the natural world and in order to use our individual powers, talents and will, collectively and individually, to foster the sustainability, kindness, imagination, creativity, benevolence and enlightened abundance that make civilization possible and desirable.

We, the sovereign individuals of Earth without distinction, hold these collective imperatives to be true and self-evident:

Collective Imperative I: Sustainability

That Earth civilization cannot achieve technological Golden Age, nor world peace, nor even generally desirable outcomes, until Earth civilization becomes sustainable. Sustainability may be described as close fit with the natural world, which is the spirit of Natural Law. Sustainability does not and cannot involve fanning the flames of global interdependence, centripetal control and pathological intensification via patterns and behaviors of ignorance or comfortable complicity. Rather, sustainability is the converse: the form and shape of sustainability is mindfulness of All, living close to Nature, fostering daily contact with Nature, growing one's own food, using indigenous materials, living modestly and wisely and working always with kindness and benevolence to foster and uphold local community. When civilization fits Nature, then suffering, pollution and waste are minimized. When it does not, the results are obviously undesirable: smog-choked megaolopoli, crime, overpopulation, misery, pollution, waste, debt and suffering. Know a tree by its fruit. Our cultural attention must turn from profiteering, exploitation and service of self to atonement with Nature, the pursuit of sustainable alternative energy, enlightenment, kindness and service of others. As such, the meme fountains of civilization such as mass media and higher education must be reformed to promote sustainability, environmentalism, harmonious cooperation and return to Nature rather than competition, elitism and self-aggrandizement. We must also begin to imagine an economic model of cooperative competition with an orientation of service to All rather than ruthless competition serving self at the expense of All.

Collective Imperative II: Population Reduction

That science has revealed and continues to reveal gainful truths about the limitations of our Earth, including the facts that it is limited in volume and in energy and in life potential, and that it is not an endless plane of exploitable resources but instead a spheroid of limited dimensions and thus resources. These truths dictate the concept of carrying capacity, which is a vague zone beyond which an exploitative human population even slightly out of alignment with perfect Natural Law will irreversibly degrade the Earth's biosphere and quality of life for posterity, resulting in the decimation or even annihilation of possibility for civilization and legacy. With respect for the aesthetics of our beautiful Universe and as conscious and mindful beings, part of the duty that we accept is to create joy, abundance and beauty greater than that which we inherited, and to carry forward the legacy of civilization with kindness and mindfulness. As such, we choose not to have more than two of our own children—and until overpopulation is no longer a concern, preferably one—and to invest mindfully and wisely in the lives of the children we do have, not sparing them life lessons sufficient for them to learn their own wisdom on their own individual paths. Further, overpopulation results in geometries of scarcity, competition and pathological intensification that make the assertion of sovereign individuality, creativity, kindness and joy far more difficult and perhaps impossible.

Collective Imperative III: Abolishing Warfare

That war creates horrific misery, global-scale destruction and political distress, and causes more problems than it solves. As such, we abolish conventional and asymmetrical warfare. The armed forces that we maintain shall consist of a reduced selection of top technologies and groups necessary for homeland defense, including a national guard, a coast guard, a better-coordinated police force, a diminished stealth navy and fleets of aerial drones. Abroad, it shall henceforth be illegal for any country to dispatch military forces against its own citizens or those of another country, and such action shall be punishable by multilateral sanctions up to and including generational depopulation programs. Countries found to be in offense of Natural Law by the world community shall be subjected to prolonged and inexpensive programs of severe economic sanction and catastrophic depopulation utilizing any and all technologies and methods that inflict no suffering, including free medical care in exchange for sterilization, the supplementation of food aid with non-harmful compounds that cause human sterility, and, if necessary, overflights of water resources in order to insert non-harmful compounds that increase sterility and decrease sex drive and aggression in humans. As such, yesterday's Axes of Evil may become tomorrow's untrammeled and unspoiled wilderness preserves and today's decade-long campaigns of murder that cost trillions and cast an ominous shadow over civilization shall instead become tomorrow's generational campaigns of dramatic suffering reduction at a tiny fraction of the ethical, aesthetic, cultural, spiritual and economic costs of war. Eventually, when all countries fall into peaceful compliance and borders and divisions are diminished, all weapons of war save those necessary for maintenance of basic individual liberty and upholding the right to bear arms in self-defense, on the individual and local community scale only, shall be abolished. Our swords shall be beaten into plowshares, the threat of nuclear annihilation shall be undone, and we envision and plan for this now.

Collective Imperative IV: Jubilee

That the present global financial system is a structure fostering oppression of the many by the few and creates vast social asymmetries in health and wealth via exclusion, elitism and the concentration of wealth and power in the hands of the most exploitative few. Therefore, we shall declare a jubilee date to abolish all private and public debts for all individuals, organizations and nations in order to liberate stagnant economies, free the oppressed and wipe out economic parasitism. Additionally, during the generation of transition between the supposedly representative control structures currently in place—which are destroying the world—and our Natural World Order, we shall abolish fractional reserve banking and fiat currency and instead make currencies based on things of real value such as precious metals, commodities or energy. Further, we shall reduce and abrogate existing laws as well as write new ones such that power and freedom flow away from centralities and return to localities and individuals, particularly in the areas of energy production and distribution, banking and government.

Collective Imperative V: Dramatic Simplification of Crime and Punishment

That the judicial systems of most nations are overly complicated, broken and unsustainable. In the United States, more than 1% of the population of adult males resides in expensive and overcrowded prisons, where they suffer and learn nothing at huge taxpayer expense. Under the current economic circumstances and moving forward, this fallacy must be undone. The most heinous of criminals, convicted murderers, shall be the minority confined to a few remaining prisons and placed under new austerity measures to help alleviate state and federal budget crises, including drastic reductions in menu choices and educational programs, which may be reserved for lesser offenders. Next-day humane lethal injection, such as the routine type employed in veterinary hospitals and animal shelters, shall be made available to any and all convicted murderers who choose it, including prior to and during the first day of incarceration. All of the remaining felons, including thieves, assault cases, drug offenders, sex offenders, forgers, perjurers, etc., shall become wards of the state during their sentence and have their access to credit permanently restricted, and social security and voting rights permanently revoked. Felonious wards shall be relocated to temporary camps where they can be employed without pay to grow and serve food to or provide low-cost shelter for the millions of homeless. This way, their lives shall be utilized in closely monitored service to marginal communities with real opportunities for rehabilitation rather than wasted in idle confinement. These wards shall live in strict discipline with technology-enhanced monitoring designed to minimize suffering for all parties, and violations of disciplinary code shall result in staged consequences such as withholding of meals, short-duration solitary confinement, hard labor and pacifying drugs. Free and inexpensive recreation of the self-improvement variety, including monitored exercise opportunities, minimal libraries and learning software, shall be provided to non-murderer felons.  Serious criminal offenses perpetrated by felonious wards shall result not in trial but in placement in remote, barely funded, fenced or island wilderness camps where habitual offenders stripped of their citizenship and all identifying numbers, records and licenses may choose either to learn sustainability and eke out a marginal existence for themselves or perish via humane injection in the presence of a licensed medical professional. Misdemeanor offenses shall be punished by temporary periods of technologically-monitored house arrest, revocation of licenses and credit restriction. All drug offenses short of trafficking (i.e., individual use-variety) shall be reclassified as misdemeanor, and all drugs of lesser addicting potential, such as marijuana, shall be legalized and taxed on sale to raise revenues, create domestic jobs and reduce the profusion of black market trade. Drugs of greater addicting potential shall remain regulated and/or illegal.

Collective Imperative VI: Dramatic Simplification of Tax Codes

That the present system of taxation is unnecessarily and wantonly complicated as well as unjust. The tax system and attending legal structure shall be immediately overhauled to drastically simplify waste and exploitation and to close well-abused loopholes. Income and estate taxes shall be forever abolished and rendered constitutionally illegal. Property tax shall be capped for lifetime upon sale to preclude extortion and to encourage permanent residency. A universal sales tax of 20% upon all non-flagged items shall immediately go into effect. High tax flagged items, including vehicles or homes deemed below sustainability thresholds, non-medical drugs and all foreign import products, shall be taxed upon sale at 40%. Medium tax flagged items including general luxuries, cosmetics, high-end clothing and power-consuming electronics, shall be taxed upon sale at 30%. A few items shall be classified as non-duty or tax free, including basic, organic, locally-produced and distributed bulk foods, non-modified or heirloom seeds and other items of high necessity for the poor and high sustainability. The beneficial socioeconomic effects of abolishing income and implementing sales taxes are widely known and published.

Collective Imperative VII: Dramatic Simplification of Government

That the present system of government favors the elite, typically Ivy League lawyers and career politicians, and has become increasingly centralized, inaccessible, corrupt, susceptible to quasi-legal and pernicious bribery known as lobbying, and separated from the public and the public good. Complexity and obscurity are shields used to hide corruption. For the sake of sustainable civilization, this must be undone. Proven libertine and third-party representatives must be elected en masse and subscribe to a well-conceived procedural reform platform, including signed and actionable vows not to take soft money or lobbying contributions, in order to simplify and localize government. In the United States, we must return power to states but also to municipalities. Funding must be funneled away from federal concerns, which are largely vested in warfare and foreign aid while our citizens go hungry, jobless and homeless, and redirected to municipalities to hire local workers and to create local fora for new, powerful and local citizen action networks designed to foster agencies of sustainable civilization such as civic gardens, CSAs, farmers markets, local sustainable and alternative power stations and projects, recycling, weatherizing homes and community-based clinics and care units such as food shelves, soup kitchens and mutual support groups for the elderly and alone. All of these initiatives should abide by evidence-based processes widely known and readily available, with programs graded such that the most results-effective in terms of community health, crime reduction and community engagement receive the most funds. Washington should remain a center for international diplomacy with a revitalized vision to foster world peace and sustainability, but our unsustainable military must be vastly reduced and smartened to retool for rapid reaction forces, border and waterway patrols while merging the remains of NASA with the Air Force under one transparent and accountable aerospace administration with greater ties to small businesses and innovators. First and foremost, funds liberated by masses of returning troops and closed foreign bases must be redeployed in civic conservation corps and local and national job creation centers such as MASH clinics to serve our uninsured, housing and cooperative living initiatives for the homeless and jobless and new, engaging and creative laboratory, workshop and experiential learning settings for cities to foster scientific consilience and communication among overly specialized disciplines as well as millions of part-time apprenticeships geared to help individuals retool for the post-industrial economy and apply sustainable practices, such as sustainable community housing using native materials and local horticulture. Washington's massive bureaucratic machine need not be demolished, but instead recreated as a visionary center for sustainable civilization on Earth abiding by Natural Law as power flows back to communities, individuals and Nature. Once an Internet-mediated direct participatory democracy is in place, Capitol Hill and surrounds could be converted to a new type of arch university dedicated to fostering sustainable and permanent civilization, with think tanks bringing to bear the latest and greatest sustainable technologies that cannot be readily applied toward destruction in workshops and fairs fostering collective vision and upholding perpetual civilization rather than the failed system of profiteering and exploitation, with all of its pollution, misery and depair.

Collective Imperative VIII: Refocus on Community, Nature and Spirituality

That the present prevailing culture of the world, that of capitalistic exploitation and self-promotion, results in unintended consequences and a largely undesirable civilization for everyone but the most fear-motivated and unimaginative elites. Out-of-control centripetal powers reduce community and individual enfranchisement and instead foster dependency and perpetuate thoughts and behaviors of victimhood, isolation and loss of initiative. Life is simple, but our civilization has become anything but. Civilization must be brought into alignment with Nature and with the nature of happy human life. The reasons why humans are happy or unhappy, alienated or loved, are available scientifically and well-published, yet our business schools, international corporations and mass media deny and suppress such evidences. Local and university-level collaborations, think tanks, action groups, clubs and research grants must be mobilized to discover the most sustainable options for fostering human happiness, and their findings must be made to populate mass media and cultural outlets with new programs of upliftment in order to foster sustainable self-discovery instead of the current cultural disease memes of "conform, consume, obey". We must become comfortable with questioning and opposing convention and tradition more intensely, especially when their patterns interfere with collective sustainability and individual happiness, and instead find those activities and living patterns that contribute most to community, belonging, happiness, health and longevity and do our best to populate and teach them in the cultural media in an atmosphere of scientific objectivity, joyful curiosity and patient mutual support of self-discovery. Certain spiritual practices, including meditation and some native or alternative medicine techniques, are clinically proven to positively effect individual happiness and health. We must pursue these practices individually, create supply via demand, and implement them collectively. Perhaps rather than presuming to talk at God in monopolistic isolation, we could learn to satisfy the same need to connect with something greater by listening to ourselves, each other and the Universe through thoughtful conversation and meditation. Perhaps rather than engaging in isolating and passive entertainment such as computer games or television, we could volunteer to organize a community garden, help out at a food shelf or soup kitchen, or find unique ways to foster beneficial community and social networking that best represent our own unique interests and talents. It is our earnest hope and wish that Nature, wild and cultivated, will one day be exemplified in our cities rather than ugly concrete and steel monoliths and smog. It is our vision that beauty returns to civilization on scales both small and grand. It is our right and responsibility to choose hope and participation in the spirit of service to others, and to open windows to the universal light raining down upon the Earth, rather than falling into the unhappy and lonely pit of service to self that is presently destroying our world and our future.

We, the sovereign individuals of Earth without distinction, choose the following lifestyle and cultural conversions as individual imperatives, with mindfulness and in the spirit of Natural Law:

Individual Imperative I: Mindful Withdrawal from Agencies of Elitism and Centripetal Control

That the environment I choose to create around me reflects my values, and that my mental and emotional states are influenced and largely determined by my environment. Nature is the ultimate teacher of Natural Law; therefore I shall strive to make my environment as natural as possible, and to come into contact with Nature in the spirit of admiration and humility, with the intent of cultivating a rich relationship, each day. As such, I agree with and uphold the need to withdraw my energies from comfortable complicity with exploitation and centripetal control, the logical conclusion of which is falling into a prison of slavery, futility and darkness, and instead choose to create for myself and others a future of joy, opportunity, creativity and enlightened abundance by modifying my behaviors to comply with Natural Law in this crucial time. I observe the following mantras:

  • I seek to withdraw from financial interaction with large, exploitative banks and instead research and open an account with a local credit union. http://www.findacreditunion.com/
  • I seek to withdraw from supporting large, exploitative corporations such as those engaged with Big Pharma and Big Oil, and instead choose to buy my gasoline, while it is a necessary evil, from companies that do not buy oil from state sponsors of terror or repressive regimes, and I shall investigate hybrid and alternative power vehicles, bicycling and mass transit options. Instead of immediately pursuing expensive and often addicting and pernicious medicines produced by exploitative pharmaceutical companies, I shall instead investigate preventive techniques such as healthy and inexpensive diet and lifestyle choices, and therapeutic techniques such as effective stress-reducing practice like Tai Chi and meditation, and authentic and effective alternative medicine options and therapies via such resources as http://www.pubmed.gov and http://altmedicine.about.com/.
  • I seek to reduce my engagement with poisonous corporate monoculture practices and the prevalent farming practices that abuse and torture animals and toxify our water, such as factory farms and feed lots. I resolve to buy only cage-free eggs and free range beef, and I vow to cut down on my intake of meats, which are clinically proven to cause disease whereas fresh and organic vegetables prevent disease. I shall research and participate in local farmer's markets, CSAs and communal farming instead of buying unnatural frankenfood planted by the Third World slaves of trans-national corporations and transported from thousands of miles away using fossil fuels.
  • I seek to buy from local, known and ethical producers rather than choosing to exploit East Asian child and slave labor with my purchases: truly, as an ethical human being, it is better to make something myself rather than to pay a slave lord. As such, I shall avoid ever purchasing a product made in China or other exploitative, human-rights abusing countries engaged in centripetal control and dubious, abusive and exploitative activities.
  • I shall research and seek to personally and collectively boycott products and services from exploitative, greedy and notoriously Earth-damaging mega-corporations such as the colluders among Big Pharma and Big Oil.
  • I shall seek closer contact with and understanding of Nature via personal exposure: rather than contributing my personal energies to artificial and exploitative destinations such as Las Vegas, casinos and megacities, I shall instead attempt to visit and learn from national parks, wildlife refuges, wilderness campgrounds, native or indigenous festivals and activities and intentional communities such as those found at http://www.ic.org/. If I do not have space to plant a garden, then I shall plant herbs in clay pots on my windowsill.
  • I shall find, promote to interested parties and vote for true libertine candidates while political structures of centripetal control still exist. I know that the two-party system consists of two parties with the same agenda: pandering to special interests and selling out our individual liberties to the highest bidders.
  • I shall not participate in or direct my personal energies to idle, mindless or destructive hobbies or habits and shall instead strive to choose mindfulness via choosing to surround myself with thoughtful and mindful individuals of positive intent, practicing meditation and engaging as selflessly as I can in local community. Self-loss is everyone's gain, especially my own. I am not afraid to mindfully rebuke and turn away from negative individuals and influences; even now I visualize my energies disengaging from them.
  • I recognize that the current mass media, government and corporate complex is overly conjoined, centralized, oligarchic and elitist, and that it benefits only the top exploiters. I shun this system of destruction and stupidity, for it degrades me and exploits my loved ones while it destroys the Earth, and I will do my best to engage in peaceful and informed resistance and to live as a libertine activist for the heritage and legacy of life and enlightened consciousness of which I choose to be part.
  • I am an agent of light, and I believe that with my natural powers of consciousness, talent and love, I can live a life of benefit to the Universe and to the ones I love. As such, I shall strive always to disengage my thoughts, behaviors and decisions from those of mindless complicity with centripetal control, and I shall instead find my own way, with the bravery of individual expression with which I was born, in authenticity, in love, in light and in courage.
